Belongs to the monotypic genus; Tribe: Lythreae. Woody, spiny shrub, up to 4 m tall, dioecious.
Opposite decussate leaves, simple. Inflorescence: dichasial, branched or single cyme. Fruits: berry, globular, 5-8 seeds; obovate or suborbicular seeds.
Capuronia is the only dioecious genus in the family Lythraceae. It is related to the genera Lafoensia and Punica (Inglis & Cavalcanti, 2018). Its wood is used in carpentry, construction (huts, fences, cattle pens) and charcoal production (Razafintsalama & al., 2014).
