Belongs to the ditypic genus: C. mahafalensis and C. vohemarensis; Subfamily: Cedreloideae.
Tree up to 10 m tall; monoecious; thick bark. Leaves compound, pinnate, decussate. Inflorescences paniculate. Fruits: capsule 2-(3-)-locular ; fibrous epicarp and mesocarp; cartilaginous endocarp. Seeds 1 or 2 per locule, wingless. C. mahafalensis differs from C. vohemarensis in inflorescence, leaf size (larger in C. vohemarensis) and fruit (often 4-locular in C. vohemarensis). Phylogenetically, Capuronianthus is related to African genus Lovoa (Koenen & al., 2015). A proto-limonoid called capulin was isolated from the bark of the species (Fossen & al., 2012). Its wood is used for construction.
