Belongs to the monotypic genus; Subfamily: Anacardioideae.

Large tree reaching 20-25 m, glabrous. Leaves alternate, deciduous, imparipinnate. Inflorescence axillary, cymose. Flowers dioecious; male flowers pentamerous, female flowers often tetramerous. Fruit straight, winged, samaroid; seed cylindrical.

Faguetia can be distinguished from Anacardiaceae genera with samaroid fruit by the elongated wing proximal to the pedicel with the fruit body distal to the pedicel (Manchester & Judd, 2022). Phylogenetically, it forms a robust clade with the genus Trichoscypha within the Anacardioideae subfamily (Pell & al., 2008). Its wood is used for construction.
