Carte Gallienia sclerophylla

Belongs to the monotypic genus; Subfamily: Ixoroideae; Tribe: Octotropideae.

Shrub to tree reaching 16 m in height. Leaves opposite, simple with leathery blades. Inflorescences axillary, in biparous cymes. Globose berry containing 2 or 3 seeds; non-ruminous albumen.

Phylogenetically, this genus is related to the genus Flagenium which is endemic to Madagascar (Mouly & al., 2014). Its wood is used for the construction of huts.
