Belongs to the monotypic genus; Subfamily: Mimosoideae; Tribe: Mimoseae.
Thornless tree up to 25-30 m tall, 1 m diameter. Leaves alternate; leaflets 2-4 pairs. Inflorescences: panicle of multiflored spikes, terminal. Flowers sessile, pentamers, neutral at the base of the spike and hermaphrodites at the top. Pod with 2 functional dehiscence slits, narrowly elliptical oblong. Seeds oblong; papyraceous wing.It differs from the winged-seeded Mimosoideae by floral heteromorphy and caducity of the exocarp.
Phylogenetically, L. capuronii is related to the pantropical species Neptunia oleracea (De Faria & al., 2022). The wood of this species is used as timber for construction.
