Belongs to the ditypic genus: P. antakarana and P. uropetala; Subfamily: Cinchonoideae; Tribe: Hymendictyeae.
Trees, 10-15 m high. Decussate leaves, simple. Inflorescences terminal and axillary, erect, unbranched, thyrsoid, Fruits ornamented with elongated to fusiform lenticels; two or one seed per locule, winged. P. antankarana differs from P. uropetala by the presence of pairs of
longstalked leafy persistent bracts that underlie the inflorescences.
Phylogenetically, Paracorynanthe is related to the genus Hymenodictyon (Löfstrand & al., 2014).
