Large shrub or tree up to 12 m tall (dbh up to 20 cm). Leaves decussate, simple, subcoriaceous, covered with long hairs erect on the face. Inflorescences terminal, in dichasial cyme. Fruit drupaceous, ovoid with 5 longitudinal ribs. Dark brown bean-shaped seed. The wood from this tree is used as firewoods and as construction material.
