48. Robbrechtia milleri (EDGE species)

Belongs to the ditypic genus: R. grandifolia and R. milleri; Subfamily: Ixoroideae; Tribe: Pavetteae.

Shrub, up to 4 m tall. Leaves decussate, simple, coriaceous. Inflorescences terminal, in dichasial cyme. Mature fruit unknown.

The two species differ in leaf size, stipules and inflorescences (smaller in R. millerii) and leaf indument (densely pubescent leaves with long, erect hairs in R. grandifolia). Phylogenetically, Robbrechtia is monophyletic and sister to a clade comprising the Madagascan representatives of Tarenna (De Block & al., 2015).

Distribution

R. milleri is endemic to eastern and north-eastern Madagascar, in the SAVA (Antsiranana Province), Atsinanana and Analanjirofo (Toamasina Province) Regions .

High montane humid forest or montane shrubland, often on steep slopes or open wind-swept ridges.

Threats

Agricultural practices, mining and illegal logging.

Conservation

This species occurs in Ankeniheny Zahamena Corridor (Cat. VI), Makira (Cat. II) and Marojejy (Cat. II) Protected Areas.

It is not reported in ex situ collections (BGCI 2022).
