Belongs to the ditypic genus: R. grandifolia and R. milleri; Subfamily: Ixoroideae; Tribe: Pavetteae.
Shrub, up to 4 m tall. Leaves decussate, simple, coriaceous. Inflorescences terminal, in dichasial cyme. Mature fruit unknown.
The two species differ in leaf size, stipules and inflorescences (smaller in R. millerii) and leaf indument (densely pubescent leaves with long, erect hairs in R. grandifolia). Phylogenetically, Robbrechtia is monophyletic and sister to a clade comprising the Madagascan representatives of Tarenna (De Block & al., 2015).
