Belongs to the monotypic genus; Subfamily: Apioideae; Tribe: Heteromorpheae.

Perennial herb, suffrutescent, 20-50 cm tall. Compound palmate leaves, alternate. Inflorescence: compound umbels, 8-12 umbels with 10-12 flowers each. Fruit oblong. It differs from Cannaboides and Pseudocannaboides in the low, suffrutescent habit, the almost palmately compound leaves and the tuberculate epidermis of the fruit.

Essential oil is extracted from the aerial parts of the plant (Rabehaja & al., 2011).
