Belongs to the ditypic genus: T. isalensis and T. minutiflora.
Aquatic herbaceous, thalloid basal part, narrow, ribbon-shaped, bearing on its margins alternating small shoots of 3-4 leaves. Distal leaves very long. Capsule with 2 equal valves. Seeds unknown.
It differs from T. minutiflora in the number of leaves surrounding the spathella. Thelethylax is distinct from African Podostemaceae by its ovoid capsule (Cook & Rutishauser, 2007).
