Belongs to the ditypic genus: T. isalensis and T. minutiflora.

Herbaceous rheophyte, submerged, basal part thalloid, rubannate, branched and highly entangled, two types of shoots formed on margins. Spathella solitary, apiculate, tearing irregularly at apex at anthesis. 2-valved capsule; 10-20 seeds. Seeds ovoid.

This species is eaten as a salad or vegetable or for seasoning food (http13).

T. minutiflora is endemic in Antananarivo (Analamanga and Itasy Regions), Antsiranana (DIANA Region), Fianarantsoa (Amoron'i Mania, Haute Matsiatra and Vatovavy Regions), Mahajanga (Betsiboka Region), Toamasina (Alaotra-Mangoro and Atsinanana Regions) and Toliara (Anosy Region) Provinces.

This species occurs in Analamazaotra (Cat. II), Andohahela (Cat. II), Andringitra (Cat. II), Betampona (Cat. I), Mangabe (Cat. VI), Manongarivo (Cat. IV), Midongy du Sud (Cat. II), Nosivolo (Cat. V), Ranomafana (Cat. II) and Tsitongambarika (Cat. VI) Protected Areas.
It is not reported in ex situ collections (BGCI 2022).
