The EDGE (Evolutionary Distinctiveness Global Endangerment) metric categorizes threatened species based on their Evolutionary Distinctiveness (ED) and their conservation statuses (GE). It focuses on the conservation of "unique species," which are endangered species that are highly distinct in terms of evolution. According to this approach, the extinction of a unique species in terms of evolution, without close relatives, represents a greater loss of biodiversity than the extinction of a species whose evolutionary history is largely shared with one or more closely related species. The calculation of the EDGE index is based on the formula developed by Isaac and al. (2007). This brochure presents the ranking of EDGE species within the vascular flora of Madagascar belonging to monotypic and ditypic genera.
